I served as a Product Manager at 98point6 for 2.5 years. I saw the company grow from less than 100 employees to 450. Our visit volumes increased four fold during that time. My primary product area was patient referrals to external primary care or specialists. As part of this I focused on on building mass customization capabilities to enable employers, health plans, and health systems to deliver tailored information about medical resources available to to patients. This included both medically based and membership based delivery of information.
My secondary responsibilities included adding COVID 19 testing logistics and educational information into patient care plans, processing lab orders, and medical letters for patients. During my tenure at 98point6 I also established the first physician product feedback process.
Creating an Extensible System for Medical Referrals and Care Coordination Coordination
Introduction: At 98point6, I served as Senior Product Manager, working to build a medical referrals and care coordination capability from scratch. My goal was to create an extensible system to support sending patients to the right resource based on their healthcare benefits.
Scope and Role: As Senior Product Manager, I worked closely with cross-functional stakeholders to define, scope, build, and iterate on the product. These stakeholders included scrum team engineers, UX designers and researchers, physicians, medical assistants, legal team, security team, business development, marketing, data engineering, quality assurance, and clinical research.
Approach and Challenges: We used agile methodologies, discovery, and prioritization to tackle the project. One of the main challenges was the complexity of the American healthcare system, which made it difficult to create a universal practice in data management. However, we were able to create an extensible capability that was able to send patients to the right resource based on their healthcare benefits.
Results and Outcomes: We created a value-add service that drove revenue for clients, and some clients were willing to double the price per member rates paid to have additional care coordination. I kept stakeholders up-to-date with written communications and at least quarterly updates and share-outs of our OKRs and quarterly roadmap.
Communications and Collaboration: I communicated regularly with stakeholders and kept them up-to-date with written communications and at least quarterly updates and share-outs of our OKRs and quarterly roadmap.
Lessons Learned: I gained a deep understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and improved my expertise in JIRA, Confluence, Asana, LaunchDarkly, wireframing, user stories, product roadmapping, prioritization, communication, OKR development and management, Scrum, Agile leadership, mobile UX and development, QA, and user research.
